They know that some of the news industry’s most notable photojournalists and picture editors will view their photos. They appreciate that winning these competitions is a true accomplishment.
A group of former newspaper photojournalists founded WPJA in 2002 for wedding photographers. The Wedding Photojournalist Association has become the most respected organization in wedding photography.
The WPJA values photojournalism, so only working photojournalists judge member competitions. They use the same judgment and expertise they would use to select the best images for their news stories.
As a result, WPJA members produce wedding photographs that capture the authentic events and emotions of the day. Their images are unique and full of humanity, setting them apart from the staged wedding photos that populate social media.
